Falkor is looking for 4 Dutch volunteers under 26 years old for the EVS-project "Close to Me", that will take place in Armenia and Georgia, including a training in the Netherlands.

All 4 volunteers will be active for 10 months, starting from 1 september 2007, within the NGO's BEM (Armenia) and APD (Georgia).

You will be involved in giving trainings to empower local youth to recognise and resist social pressure and instead encourage them to make their own decisions, with the aim to:
-reduce the growing number of HIV/ AIDS infections
-reduce and prevent intravenous drugs abuse
-recognise and prevent violent situations

Among this youth are different risk groups, such as young IDP's. You will do this together with young trainers from Armenia or Georgia after being trained professionally yourself during a 10-day training in the Netherlands.

Also, you can also join other activities of the host organization and organize a personal project.

Volunteer activities:

1st-2nd week: Getting to know the host organisation and work profile. Getting to know the staff and organization members and current projects of APD or BEM. In the first week will also be organized the on-arrival training (for all EVS-volunteers of Falkor, APD and BEM together).

3rd -4th week: Introduction to the specific tasks of the EVS-volunteers; learning basic skills for the training of local youth, learning how to run a project, how to apply for (additional) funding, how to co-operate with Georgian partner organisations, getting informed about the content of the issues of the training, discussing the methods we will use.
In meantime the volunteers are also offered to start their Georgian language lessons.

From the second month the EVS-volunteers will work on their trainings-project together with two trainers of APD or BEM. They will prepare the sessions, make appointments with schools etc. and start the trainings.

Besides the trainings-project the volunteers will have time to work on a personal project, and/or take part in other activities and projects of APD or BEM, including meetings with other EVS-volunteers, NGOs, and be involved in youth exchanges of APD if they take place during their EVS-period.

Practical information:

All volunteers will remain in contact with each other through our EVS network and join trainings (like the on-arrival training ) and meetings together.

International travel costs, visa, insurance, accommodation, food and local transport costs will be covered. Also task-related and personal support (a mentor) and language lessons will be provided. The volunteer's allowance (pocket money) for the "Close to me"-project is 150 Euro per month.

The project is financed with support of the YOUTH programme of the European Commission.

Please contact us if you would like to get more information on the above mentioned EVS positions.
