“Close to me”: HIV/AIDS prevention in Georgia and Armenia

You will be active for 10 months in Tbilisi, Georgia or Yerevan, Armenia, involved in the NGOs APD or BEM, giving trainings to empower local youth to recognise and resist social pressure and instead encourage them to make their own decisions, with the aim to: reduce the growing number of HIV/ AIDS infections, to reduce and prevent intravenous drugs abuse and to recognise and prevent violent situations. Among this youth are different risk groups, such as young IDP's. You will do this together with young trainers from Armenia or Georgia after being trained professionally yourself during a 10-day training in the Netherlands.
Also, you can also join other activities of the host organization and organize a personal project.

European Voluntary Service for Dutch volunteers under 30 years, starting from September 2007

"Promoting (youth) environmental activities in Georgia"

Falkor is looking for two Dutch volunteers under 30 years old for the EVS-project "Promoting (youth) environmental activities in Georgia".

You will be active for 10 months, starting from 1 september 2007, within the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN).
You will help creating and promoting the CENN public image and to strengthen the Youth Environmental Network. The general tasks of the EVS-volunteers will be to bring new “breath”, vision and innovative ideas into the organization how to promote CENN to the general public, and to enable members of the youth network to be more innovative by delivering them informal trainings and holding discussions and debates.

1 EVS position in Georgia;
European Voluntary Service for a Dutch volunteer under 26 years, starting from September 2007.

For 8 months you will be active at the Human Rights Information and Documentation Centre (HRIDC) in Tbilisi. The volunteer will be involved in a campaign to improve the relations between Georgians and Abkhazians living in Georgia. Activities in this campaign are e.g. cultural workshops for children, an art exhibition, a folk festival, and several media presentations, like the production of a video-documentary about Georgian-Abkhazian issues.
Apart from this the volunteer will assist in several regular activities of the organisation, like writing and editing for the online human rights magazine

Photo Contest “I -Human” in South Caucasus

A regional newspaper “Voice of Kakheti” and Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), with the support of photojournalism short course, conducts a photo contest “I - Human”.

For the first time in South Caucasus - Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, conflict regions: Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The photo contest is implemented in the framework of the International Documentary Film Festival “I - Human”.

The main directions of the festival include peace and human rights.

Anyone across Caucasus Southern enjoys a right to take part in the competition, whether a professional photographer or an amateur.

The photo contest will be held in the following nominations:

1. The best portrait;
2. The best composition;
3. The best photo story;
4. The best idea.

Timeframes for submitting the applications: from May 1, 2007 until July 1, 2007. For the registration the applicant is supposed to submit the application form and photos through a hard copy or a compact disk, or via E-Mail.

On July 26,27, 28, 2007 Nato Vachnadze House Museum in Kakheti will host the exhibition “I -Human” too, apart from the Film Festival. All the best photos having undergone the final selection of the competent jury will be exhibited.
